THE FLORIDA SCRUB-JAY TRAIL + NATIVE NURSERIES
APRIL 16TH | 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM | CLERMONT, FL
This interactive field tour will focus on native plant ecology, exploring the interplay between native plants and wildlife. It will also dive into the link between habitat restoration and native nursery production. The tour will include three stops in Lake County. At the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail, participants will learn the role of native plant species and habitats for endangered and protected species. We will also explore the restored Florida scrub-jay ecosystem. The tour will continue on to visit two premier local native nurseries, Enviro-Pro Tree Farm and Green Isles Gardens, where participants will hear from experts on the role of native plants in promoting biodiversity and habitats for pollinators, butterflies, and other wildlife. Speakers will also discuss the challenges and opportunities for increasing the supply and demand for native plants in the landscape and nursery industries.

REDUCING THE FOOTPRINT OF IRRIGATED LANDSCAPES IN FLORIDA'S RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTS
APRIL 21st | 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM | VIRTUAL Collaborating with 1000 Friends of Florida, we will discuss how residential landscape irrigation is becoming Florida’s single biggest user of potable water. In certain situations, developers have successfully reduced the number and extent of irrigation systems in their projects. This presentation reviews examples and considers how to facilitate a more widespread shift in Florida’s residential landscaping paradigm by reevaluating financial implications, focusing on soils management, and redeveloping our plant pallet. BOTANICAL LIFE, NATURAL LANDS MANAGEMENT + SUSTAINABILITY AT UNF
MAY 7TH | 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM | JACKSONVILLE, FL
This tour will explore the landscape heritage, botanical gardens, natural preserved lands, and sustainability initiatives at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. The UNF campus covers 1381-acres including: 300-acre Sawmill Slough Preserve, nature trails, a 100-acre central core managed as a botanical garden, 11 LEED-certified structures. Four of the structures have received gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for excellence in sustainability. There will also be examples of innovative sustainable landscape designs such as The Frederick and Ophelia Tate Ogier Gardens, LID storm-water ponds, and more.
