Panel: Residential Landscapes & The Land Development Process
In this session panelists come together to discuss shifting to more sustainable landscapes in new master planned developments. The team comes together and shares from each perspective: Academic, Developer, Designer, Landscape Manager, Builder and the Governance. Panelists will discuss their experience working with the development community to implement sustainable landscapes in planned communities.
The panel will focus on mapping the network of stakeholder interests and relationships that drive many of the decisions and outcomes for the landscape. Some of the questions answered during this panel include: what key decisions are being made at each stage of the process that influence the outcome of the landscape; what regulatory, financial, market and operational factors drive decision making as it relates to landscaping and sustainability; and how can we increase communication and collaboration across the chain of custody to improve outcomes?

Panel: Living Laboratory Research Projects
In this session, researchers and industry partners will present the objectives, study design, methods, measurements, and hypotheses for two separate projects underway to evaluate sustainable landscapes at Sunbridge. The first is The Boundary Planting at Base Camp, a 400’ x 35’ native plant corridor with 16 experimental plots comparing soil amendment and irrigation strategies. The second is titled Benefits of Native Plants in Residential Landscapes and compares the predominantly native landscapes at 12 model homes in Weslyn Park to homes in a nearby new neighborhood with conventional turf-dominant landscapes.
